Learning is a Lifelong Experience

• Overview: Camilo Herrera was born just outside of Chicago to a primarily Spanish speaking family. His first experience with English came when he entered elementary school. Immediately immersed into an English speaking classroom, Camilo was compelled to learn English not only for academic success, but to develop a satifsfying social life. Though struggles and challenges surfaced, with the aid of family members and siblings he quickly grasped the concepts and requirements involved in participating in a dual-language environment. His experiences have pushed him to understand of the importance of learning, not only in school but in personal time, with family, and at work. He emphasizes the value of bilingualism and discusses the benefits and opportunities that being bilingual has brought to his life.
