Literacy Biographies
Religion and literacy. These two aspects of many individuals' lives are often perceived as separate, although both are highly valued in homes around the world. In both interviews that I conducted, religion arose as a central influence on the interview subjects’ literacy development.
The biographies contained in this page represent two generations of literacy learning. The first biography is based upon an interview I conducted with my father. He shared literacy development experiences specifically connected to his traditional Catholic schooling and the methods of teaching within that setting. The second biography is based on the experiences of a friend, Sharon. She was raised in a strictly traditional Catholic family and that influenced her education, learning, reading material, and what she focused her learning on growing up.

Seminar Paper: Technology and Its Effects on Literacy Learning
My seminar paper explores a topic that surfaced while interviewing my father-- how technology and its evolving forms change literacy education in America. My central thesis is: Technology’s impact on literacy learning is monumental; it makes resources more accessible, diverse, and efficient; however, technology must be taught judiciously in order to ensure that literacy learning does not get lost in the information highway of the World Wide Web. I explore how technology has a tremendous and positive impact on learning and material available. With the massive influx of information through technology, however, teachers and parents must cautiously and carefully instruct the upcoming generations how to use technology in order for literacy education to not be compromised.
Audio Clip:
My biography audio clip highlights Sharon's experiences being enrolled both in public school and being home schooled for some time and how she perceives differences between those alternate forms of education.
